Our Heroes

Captain Bill Wilson

Born on November 5, 1924, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Captain Bill Wilson devoted his life to serving Canada and honouring its naval heritage.

During the Second World War, Bill enlisted in the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve. He served in the Battle of the Atlantic and participated in the D-Day landings at Normandy—operations that helped shape the course of the war.

Over 52 years of distinguished service, Bill demonstrated steadfast leadership, dedication, and commitment to his country, retiring with the rank of Captain. His passion for preserving the stories of those who served made him a driving force behind the Naval Museum of Alberta, helping ensure that Canada’s naval history would be remembered and shared with future generations.

We honour Captain Bill Wilson for his wartime service, his lifelong leadership, and his enduring contribution to our community. His legacy lives on in the history he helped preserve and the people he continues to inspire.

Lest We Forget.
