Our Heroes

Charles “Chuck” Belliveau

Charles “Chuck” Belliveau was born on January 22, 1938, in Joggins, Nova Scotia. At just 17 years old, with a deep sense of responsibility to help provide for his family, he left school and joined the Canadian Army.

Chuck first served with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders and later the Regiment of Canadian Guards. When medical findings determined the infantry would not be his lifelong path, he transferred to the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps as a driver—a role in which he excelled. His service took him to CFB Wainwright, CFB Clinton, and finally to CFB Calgary with 1 Service Battalion (Transport Company), where he served with dedication until his retirement from the military in 1977.

Retirement, however, did not mark the end of his service. Chuck continued his career as a civilian supply supervisor with CE Engineers until the closing of CFB Calgary in 1998. His commitment to the military community spanned over four decades.

One of the proudest chapters of his career was his deployment as a United Nations Peacekeeper in Rafah and Port Said, Egypt, from 1959 to 1960. His time in uniform, both at home and abroad, left him with cherished memories and lifelong friendships.

Chuck was immensely proud of his service to Canada, and his legacy lives on in the stories, camaraderie, and devotion he shared with all who served alongside him.
