Our Heroes

David Blain was born in Tarbrax, Scotland, on October 28, 1922. He immigrated to Canada with his family, settling first in Drumheller in 1924 and later in Calgary in 1930.

At just 15 years old, David left home and joined the Canadian Army in Nanaimo in 1937. In 1940, he was deployed to Scotland and served with the 21st Armoured Regiment of the Governor General’s Foot Guards, Royal Canadian Armoured Corps.

David was killed in action on August 11, 1944, at only 21 years of age, during the latter stages of the Battle of Normandy. He was laid to rest at Bretteville-sur-Laize Canadian War Cemetery in France.

David gave his young life in service to Canada. His courage, dedication and sacrifice will forever be remembered with honour and gratitude.
