David Cathcart
David Cathcart answered the call to serve in 1947 when he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps. He went on to serve with distinction in the Korean War (1951–52) as a proud member of the Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians). Over the course of his military career, he also served with the Royal Canadian Dragoons and the Fort Garry Horse, building a legacy of dedication and professionalism.
After retiring from the Canadian Armed Forces in 1972, David continued his lifelong commitment to service. He worked as a Special RCMP Constable at the Calgary International Airport (1973–1981) and later as a Transit Security Officer for the City of Calgary (1981–1995).
Beyond his professional life, David gave generously of his time and energy to countless organizations. He was an active member of the Lord Strathcona’s Horse and Royal Canadian Dragoons Regimental Associations, the Korea Veterans Association, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #264 Poppy Fund, The Military Museums in Calgary, and the Colonel Belcher Hospital Veteran Visiting Program.
David passed away in 2020, leaving behind a life marked by courage, commitment, and community. He is fondly remembered by his family and friends for his unwavering service, quick wit, and boundless zest for life.
