Max Bossert
Max Bossert was born on November 4, 1910, in Stirling, near Lethbridge, Alberta. Devoted and hard-working from a young age, he apprenticed as a dietician at St. Michael’s Hospital in Lethbridge between 1926 and 1929. In 1934, Max married Ardella Nate in Lethbridge, and together they built a loving family with four children: LaVoy, Ronald, LaBeana, and Maxine.
Answering the call to serve his country, Max enlisted at Fort Macleod in 1941 and joined the Canadian Scottish Regiment, R.C.I.C. His skills as a dietician were quickly recognized by the Army, which granted him trade pay as Cook Group “C” in October 1941.
On December 20, 1943, Max was taken prisoner of war. Despite the hardships of captivity, he exemplified courage and dedication. After the war ended, the Canadian Army learned that he had died while a prisoner. His official date of death was recorded as December 31, 1944. Max was just 34 years old.
Max Bossert’s service and sacrifice are remembered with gratitude and honour.
