Nicol McIntosh
Nicol McIntosh was born in Scotland on February 21, 1910. In 1919, he immigrated to Medicine Hat, Alberta, with his family, beginning a new chapter in Canada that would be marked by dedication, service, and commitment to his community and country.
In 1925, Nicol began his career with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. With the outbreak of the Second World War, he left the bank in June 1940 to answer the call to serve, enlisting with the Royal Canadian Engineers in Grande Prairie, Alberta. He later served overseas with the 2nd Canadian Pioneer Battalion, earning the rank of Sergeant. After faithfully serving his country, he was honourably discharged in Calgary in October 1945.
Following the war, Nicol returned to the Bank of Commerce, where he continued his career until his retirement in 1972. In 1953, he married Della Brown, and together they built a loving family, welcoming their daughter Janet.
In 2004, Nicol became a resident of the Colonel Belcher Veterans Facility in Calgary, where he spent his final years among fellow veterans. On November 21, 2006, Nicol passed away peacefully at the age of 96.
Sergeant Nicol McIntosh lived a remarkable life defined by duty, loyalty, perseverance, and quiet strength. His service to Canada, devotion to his family, and lifelong contributions to his community remain a lasting legacy. He will be remembered with gratitude, respect, and honour.
