Our Heroes
Orville V. Studer
Orville Studer was born on November 28, 1921, on a farm near Eastend, Saskatchewan. A man of quiet strength and steadfast character, he worked alongside his family on the farm until he answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the Army in late 1943.
After completing basic training in Dundurn, Saskatchewan, Orville sailed for England in September 1944. His first day of action with the VIII Canadian Reconnaissance Regiment – 14th Canadian Hussars – came on Friday, October 13, 1944. He went on to serve with distinction in Belgium, Holland, and Germany, remaining with the Occupation Forces until late 1946.
Upon returning home, Orville built a life rooted in love and family. On December 20, 1946, he married Mary Flannery, and together they raised eight children. He spent the remainder of his life in Alberta, where his dedication to family, community, and country continued to shine through.
Orville Studer passed away on October 11, 2008. His service and sacrifice are remembered with deep gratitude, and his legacy lives on in his family and in the freedom he helped defend.
