Our Heroes

R. Bruce Chambers was born on February 13, 1918, in southern Saskatchewan. At the beginning of the Second World War, he enlisted in the Canadian Army and served throughout the conflict in the United Kingdom and Europe.

Following his wartime service, Bruce returned to Northwestern Ontario, where he and his father established the family homestead on which future generations would be raised. Farming became one of the great joys of his life, and he took immense pride in the land, his work and the home he helped build.

Bruce married the woman he loved, Gladys Fults, and together they raised four children. Surrounded by family and the life they created together, Bruce once reflected that he felt he had been truly blessed.

He remained active throughout his life and passed away at the age of 95. Bruce’s devotion to his country, his family and the land he loved left a legacy that continues through those who knew and loved him.

He will always be remembered and deeply missed.
