Our Heroes

Victor H. “Vic” Morrison was born in Delia, Alberta, on November 8, 1919. Answering the call to serve during the Second World War, he enlisted with the 14th Army Tank Battalion (The Calgary Regiment) on February 18, 1941.

During his military service, Vic and his fellow soldiers witnessed the Dieppe Raid from the shoreline—an experience that remained an important part of his wartime story. Years later, the Olds Legion established the Dieppe Room to preserve the memory of the raid and those whose lives were forever changed by it.

Following his discharge, Vic returned to Alberta and built a full and industrious life. He worked as a butcher for Safeway in Calgary and operated a mink farm outside the city with his brother-in-law. He later moved to Olds, where he and his wife, Dorothy, owned and operated their own business for 25 years.

Vic and Dorothy were deeply involved in the Olds Legion and its activities. Vic served a term as Branch President and helped bring a Sherman tank from Montreal to be permanently displayed on the Legion grounds—a fitting tribute to his wartime service with The Calgary Regiment and to the generations of Canadians who served alongside him.

Beyond his military service and community involvement, Vic enjoyed golfing and curling well into his later years. He and Dorothy raised four children: Vicki, Jimmy, Leslie and Brenda.

Vic passed away on December 13, 2012. He is remembered with pride and gratitude as a devoted husband and father, a veteran, a community leader and a steadfast supporter of the Royal Canadian Legion. His legacy lives on through his family, his community and the stories preserved in his honour.
